Middle School Theme Day Connects Students with Community and Environment

On Monday, October 12, middle school students took learning beyond the classroom for Theme Day, exploring connections to the river, the natural environment, and their community.

Sixth graders rode bikes along the Centennial Trail, learning about the river connections that shape the region. Seventh graders visited Riverside State Park, where they worked with an environmental science professor from North Idaho College and the Lands Council to collect citizen-science water-quality data. Their activities focused on ecology and sustainability. CLICK HERE to see more images from the 7th grade Theme Day.

Eighth graders visited UGM and Second Harvest Food Bank, where they helped sort food. The experience encouraged them to think about empathy and connection, including the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness or food insecurity.

Through these hands-on activities, students explored how people, places, and communities are connected.
