SGS Students Help Protect Wood Ducks Along the River

This past week, SGS students took action in the fight to preserve declining wood duck habitats. They floated along the river from campus to Painted Rocks, checking the duck boxes for signs of use. Students carefully cleaned out nesting debris, added fresh sawdust, and inspected each box for repairs—finding some, like one leaning off a tree, that needed fixing. They also removed wasp nests to keep the boxes safe for future use. These efforts help protect and promote breeding among these shy, reclusive ducks, contributing to the health of the local ecosystem. Great work, students, for making a real difference!
