SGS Spring Blood Drive – Coming to Campus March 26th

Dear Students and Parents,

In recent years, a severe blood shortage has affected communities nationwide. We want to help, and we encourage you to join in! The percentage of people who will need a blood donation or who have someone close to them who needs a blood transfusion is 97%, and as it stands, only 3% of people donate. As part of the blood drive committee, we want to reach out to you and tell you how you can help raise that number and save a life. If you are under the age of 18, you must get parental permission and complete the permission form to donate! You must also weigh at least 110 pounds, depending on your height, to donate safely.

Attached to this email is a link to sign up to donate either whole blood or Power Red with the American Red Cross and us on March 26th! Whole blood donations take about 10-15 minutes, depending on your recovery, and snacks, drinks, and waffles will be provided. However, if you choose the Power Red route, it should take 30-45 minutes. Power Red donations use a different machine to collect double the amount of red blood cells, while returning plasma and platelets to you, and this option can help save even more lives. If you are a first-time donor, this process is not recommended.

If you do decide to donate, make sure you drink plenty of water and eat nourishing foods in the days leading up to your donation! Overall, your health is of utmost importance to us, so take care of yourself. Don’t feel pressured to donate if you are afraid of needles—we get it! If you still want to help, but don’t feel up for it or are unable to due to health reasons, you can ask family or friends to donate in your place. Spread the word so people may consider donating in the future if they get the chance. One donation could save up to three lives! Any help is very much welcome and appreciated!

Thank you,

The SGS Blood Drive Community!
