SGS Hosts Dragonslayer Chess Tournament

Saint George’s School hosted the Dragonslayer youth chess tournament on Saturday, March 25th. There were 60 players representing 28 schools and homeschool groups — see a Photo Gallery of some of the SGS participants.

In the Elementary division, SGS tied for second in the team standing with Skyline Elementary. Colbert won the trophy, beating these two by a point. Addy Classical, a homeschool group in the Colville area won the HS/MS team competition.

Nine SGS students participated: Eshan Reddy, Noah Hochheimer, Yanek Zhan, Melody Ji, Kayaan Puri, Luca Hochheimer, Asmi Jain, Lily Dutton, and Vivaan Puri. Noah tied with three others for 2nd in Middle School and won a trophy. Eshan finished third in the High School + Open section. Yanek, Melody, and Kayaan each had three points, meeting the standard for qualifying for the state elementary chess championship. All three had previously qualified at other events.

A big thank you to the SGS parents who helped by doing the check-in, running the scoring table, observing the playing room to mediate disputes, and working concessions.
