Rick Riley, an SGS cross country and track and field coach and legendary Inland Northwest distance runner, will be inducted into the Inland Northwest Sports Hall of Fame on October 21.
Riley first made his mark at Ferris High School, where he set a national record in the two-mile in 1966. That record remained a Washington state record for 58 years. At Washington State University, he became the first Cougar—and the first Spokane native—to break four minutes in the mile.
Huge congratulations to Rick Riley on this well-deserved honor and on his lasting contributions to Inland Northwest running! His remarkable accomplishments as both an athlete and coach have left an enduring legacy in the Spokane-area sports community.
