Mark Rickard, assistant coach for the SGS boys’ soccer team the past three years, will become the team’s head coach this fall after Heidi Melville steps down from that role. “I hope to carry on the winning ways of this team that was the WIAA Team of the Decade in boys soccer for 2010-19,” says Mark. “I’ll take everything I’ve learned from Heidi and be a good steward of this team to continue it’s championship tradition.”
Mark coached a total of eight years under Heidi, including their most recent State 2B title in 2019. “We return a very strong core of players who had plenty of varsity minutes,” says Mark, who also teaches PE and Leadership classes at SGS, advises the ASB, and will take on Dean of Students duties in the fall. “I’m excited about this coming year after a challenging 2021,” he says.
