IB Highlights: Choosing IB Courses

IB Question of the Week: Does the school meet with 10th graders in preparation for them choosing their two-year courses for 11th and 12th grades?

Yes, in February and March, IB Coordinator Elizabeth Tender meets with each 10th grader and at least one parent or guardian to answer questions and go over all the IB course choices. From this meeting, students create a rough schedule for their six IB courses. Registration for courses doesn’t occur until April/May, so the student and parents have time to evaluate and reflect after the meeting.

CORE Highlight: Diploma Program student Sea Yun Joung shares with IB World how the TOK course makes an IB education unique and benefits him as a lifelong learner:

CAS Experience Highlights: CAS experiences for all of our Upper School Students recorded this week included learning piano, skiing, baking banana bread for book club and participating in the Joya Penny Drive.

Please refer to the IB Webpage on our website for detailed IB information or email elizabeth.tender@sgs.org with any questions. As an overview, the Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum for grades 11-12 is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay (EE).
