Girls Basketball Ends Season at Regionals

After winning a series of loser-out games to reach Regionals, the Dragon girls basketball team travelled to Yakima to face Mabton on Friday, Feb. 25. It turned out to be their last game of the season, losing 63-52 and closing their season one win short of returning to the State Tournament in Spokane. “I could not be more proud of a group of student-athletes than I am of this team!” says coach Brad Kirsch. “It look us a little bit to settle into the pace of the game as Mabton pressed all game long, and we dug ourselves quite a hole early. Mabton made 8 of their first 10 three point shots and were up 16 at half.”

“The girls never gave up, never gave in, and competed the entire way, cutting the lead to 7 late, but we were unable to get over the hump. Margreit Galow and Annika Bergquist both scored 18 points.”

On the plus side, all of the Dragons return next season. “This group got more out of themselves than I think they knew was possible,” says Kirsch. “I can’t wait to get back in the gym with them soon!”
