Dragons Fall to Adna Pirates at State 2B Tournament

The Dragons returned to the Arena for the State 2B boys basketball tournament on Feb. 28, but lost to the Adna Pirates 70-47 to end their season. Shawn Jones, the Northeast 2B League MVP, battled foul trouble and the Dragons’ couldn’t match the Pirates’ rebounding and shooting in the second half. It was Saint George’s first trip to State since earning a 3rd place trophy in 2020.

“They beat us to a bunch of offensive boards in the second half,” Dragons coach Ryan Peplinski said in an article in the Spokesman-Review. “They did a good job taking away any sort of run we could make.”

The Dragons were tied at the half and down by just 2 mid-way through the 3rd quarter, when Jones picked up his fourth foul and had to sit. The Pirates went on a 15-2 run to finish the quarter and put the game out of reach. Read the full Spokesman Article for more details and quotes from coach Peplinski.
