Last Friday the 6th-grade class visited the fish hatchery next door to SGS. Students observed hatchery operations and learned how the various species are cared for as part of their ongoing project raising 150 rainbow trout eggs in the school’s 50‑gallon tank. The outing reinforced trout life‑cycle stages and husbandry practices and will lead to a release day at Bear Lake in May. Students and teachers fed the fish, and a few brave participants even got up close and personal with a large sturgeon!
What a memorable day at the fish hatchery — a hands‑on experience that brought classroom learning to life and will prepare students for their Spring River unit on salmon life cycles and the effects of dams and hatcheries in the Northwest.
