On May 22nd, the 3rd Graders hiked to the Spokane House Interpretive Center on the Spokane River for part of their study of Spokane History. As a part of this unit, 3rd graders learned about the Spokane area and the resources it provided initially to local tribes, and then later to the early fur traders. The class hiked almost 4 miles from SGS to visit to the Spokane House Interpretive Center, which highlights this area’s history and its people. One of the interpreters spoke specifically about his ancestor, Jaco Finlay, a Canadian fur trader and scout, who was sent to this area with Finan McDonald in the early 1800’s to establish a fur trading post at the confluence of the Spokane River and the Little Spokane River.
